Our Expert Tips to Combat Dry, Thirsty Skin

Tips for Dry Skin

As we move into the spring and warmer, brighter days, the change is season is bittersweet for those of us whose skin won’t play ball. After the long, cold winter, our skin is crying out for some TLC and with this in mind, we’ve compiled our top tips on how to nourish and treat thirsty skin to keep up with the seasons. Staying true to Oilixia’s focus on natural beauty and wellness, we’ve explored options that fit with a clean lifestyle for smooth, pure and simple results.

ENZYME EXFOLIATOR

A gentle exfoliator is one of the most effective ways to cleanse skin of impurities and scrub away the winter dullness. We generally prefer enzyme exfoliators to scrubs, as these give a more even exfoliation, and won’t drag or micro-scratch the skin that may result in surface and deeper damage. The Kakadu Plum has great levels of Phenolic Acid, which acts just like an AHA and exfoliates the top layer of the skin’s surface for a smoother, more toned look and softer feel. It’s also an effective anti-ageing component that helps with the reduction of wrinkles and fine lines. You can find it in our Australian Kakadu Plum Gummy Facial Cleanser which is kind to skin and uses a unique formula for balanced, smooth results. It’s gentle enough to be used every day, too!

MAKE UP MAGIC

Facial oils are ideal for helping to balance out your skin’s moisture levels. We would recommend mixing a little of the Explorer Blend Facial Oil with your regular foundation to give a dewy look and keep skin looking hydrated. You can also apply a little oil with a flat-top foundation brush over foundation to give a glow and help combat dry skin around the nose and cheek area. The oil will also boost skin for a brighter, healthy glow and firmer feel.

FROM THE INSIDE OUT

The very best beauty routines start from the inside out. That’s why we recommend eating a healthy, balanced diet with foods high in Essential Fatty Acids to nourish skin right down to the core. Oily fish such as salmon or mackerel is a great source of EFA. You should also include eggs, dark green leafy veg, almonds, walnuts and wholegrain foodstuffs in your diet. The vegetables, especially, contain high water levels to aid a balanced diet. Complement the EFAs by reducing your sugar, wheat and dairy intake as far as possible. Snack on almonds and walnuts instead of chocolate and you’ll soon see the effects in your body and skin.

MIND OUT

We all know that our skin is one of the first things to suffer when we’re under stress. So, give yourself some space and take time out to meditate. The benefits of mindfulness have been lauded by the experts for many years, and we are firm believers in the practice. Meditation not only brings you to a good, focused and relaxed centre by giving you time to focus on your breath and in the present, it is also an effective way to rejuvenate, cleanse and boost the skin and complexion. Even if you take just five minutes out every day and work your way up, you’ll soon reap the benefits in skin, body, mind and soul.
